Luke 10:2 (NLT): “These were his instructions to them: “The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So, pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.”

I find it’s easy to forget about things that are not in front of me regularly. Our tendency is to remember those things that nag at us in front of our faces. Yet, many of the things that are dearest to our Lord’s heart are easily forgotten. God wants us to keep certain things on our minds, even when we don’t see them regularly.

In the Gospel of Luke, we find Jesus sending out his disciples by twos visiting people’s homes to give them the opportunity to hear the Good News. It is clear from Jesus’ words that the number of people that can respond to this message are many, but those that would share the message are few. This is a missionary passage that reminds us to pray for those that would go and share God’s message. It’s a reminder to all of us that God is calling us to an awareness and willingness to go with this message across the street or across the ocean.  

Last year, I started setting my watch alarm (it vibrates on my wrist) for 10:02 a.m. each day. The alarm is a reminder to me of Luke 10:2 and of God’s heart for those that haven’t heard the Good News of Christ.  I take a moment to pray for the salvation of friends and family, as well as lift up our Appleton Alliance missionaries and partnering churches around the world. It is good to be reminded and to keep them in our sight as they are in God’s sight.
