Acts 3:12 says, “Why do you stare at us as if it is by our own power…”

In the early Church, following the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, the Holy Spirit was moving in a unique time. The Holy Spirit, through Peter, healed a crippled beggar in the temple courts and it caused quite a stir. “When Peter saw this, he said to them, ‘Fellow Israelites, why does this surprise you? Why do you stare at us as if by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk?’” (Acts 3:12).

There are times in our lives that God does a miracle, answers a prayer, or shows up and we are surprised. But why? It might be because we don't actually expect the Holy Spirit to move and sometimes we write off God's work as a coincidence.

We are living in a unique time and the Holy Spirit is going to move. We need to pray and raise our expectations of what he can and will do. Then, when he shows up, we need to give him the glory, thanks, and praise. “By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know was made strong. It is Jesus' name and the faith that comes through Him that has completely healed him, as you can all see” (Acts 3:16).
