And now, do not be distressed and do not be angry with yourselves for selling me here, because it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you. For two years now there has been famine in the land, and for the next five years there will be no plowing and reaping. But God sent me ahead of you to preserve for you a remnant on earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance. (Genesis 45:5-7)

Hindsight is 20/20.

This is a statement about how when we look back on our circumstances we can see clearly, but in the middle of our circumstances it is hard to look at life from a larger perspective. We have all experienced this.

Later you learn why a relationship had to end. Later you learn why you didn't get the job you wanted. Later you learn why you experienced grief and loss. But when we're in the middle of it we can't see the bigger purpose. In the book of Genesis, Joseph was sold by his brothers into slavery. In the middle of it, Joseph couldn't see the reasons why this had to happen. Neither could Jacob, his father. But it did need to happen. If it didn't happen, Israel would have been wiped out of existence.

Joseph, in hindsight, found his answers. Knowing this, are you able to trust God in the middle of your circumstances?
