Matthew 7:24-29: “Anyone who listens to my teaching (is like) a person who builds a house on solid rock.”

Who is telling the truth?  What will happen next? 

These are good questions because the important assumptions we have counted on for most of our lives have suddenly disappeared. The expectations we have used to plan our days and future have all but evaporated. And there are so many conflicting versions of “truth.” We’ve lost control. No wonder people are experiencing a lot of anxiety. 

What can we know for certain? Our confidence during times of rough waters must be anchored in Biblical truth. The things of this world will always be shifting sands and Biblical truth will always be rock solid. Here is what we can know for certain:

God is real (Psalm 14:1).
God is good (John 10:11).
Sin is real (Romans 3:23).
Suffering is real (John 16:33).
Our Creator, God, entered the world in the Person of Jesus Christ (John 1:14).
He suffered, died, and resurrected to be able to give us meaning now and glorious hope for our future (1 Corinthians 15:17-57).
God is with us now and will be with us tomorrow (Hebrews 13:5).
God provides us with what we need not what we always want (Philippians 4:19).
God is in control and works everything out for our good and His glory (Romans 8:28).
The righteous will live by faith (Romans 1:17).
Love our neighbors (Galatians 5:14).

We need to live by faith in these truths even during those times we cannot understand. We need to take our wayward thoughts and fears and hold onto the truth that God is working all this out. He doesn’t need us, but He loves us and invites us to be part of His work. We are more than conquerors through Him who loves us. Nothing can separate us from the love of God. Declare this, stand in this reality, love your neighbor, and do not be afraid.
