“For Christ’s love compels us because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again (2 Corinthians 5:14-15).
 
Why do we serve Christ? Why do we obey Him? Do we do it out of guilt or fear? To make us feel good or to try and make Him happy with us? What motivates us to follow Christ, to worship Him, to live for Him? 
 
As we see from the above Scripture, Paul was compelled by the love of Jesus to live his life for Him. He had a passion to know Christ above anything else and this knowledge was more than enough motivation to want to make Him known. He discovered that it’s in Jesus that all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden (Colossians 2:3).
 
Paul prayed for us that we might have power to understand “how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is” and that we would experience this love so “you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.” (Ephesians 3:18-19 NLT). When this happens (and, for me, this is a life-long process), your motivations for service and ministry become more and more pure. You will be like those who were remembered for “work produced by faith, labor prompted by love, and endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Thessalonians 1:3).
 
So, Christian, pursue Jesus through His Word and seek to really know Him and begin to grasp what He has done for you in the gospel. You then will be able to say with confidence that it is Christ’s love for you that compels you to worship Him and serve Him.
