Need We Fear?

·

Isaiah 41:10:  “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and  help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

We live in a broken, unpredictable, and at times fearful world.  We can do well only if we can depend on Someone more powerful and wiser than ourselves to live without paralyzing fear.

In verse 10 from Isaiah 41 God instructs his children to not be afraid nor dismayed.   The grounds for our stability lie in the premises that God is God.  God is really with us, by our side.  God will strengthen us, make us resolute.  God will hold us fast while the storm rages, with the firm grip of his hand of righteousness, like the hand Jesus gave to Peter sinking in the sea (Matt 14:31- “… he reached out his hand and grabbed him.”).

If the key to fearlessness is believing that God is our God and is with us and will empower us and help us and hold on to us, then an increasing knowledge of the greatness of this God will intensify our faith and confront our deepest fears.   Isn’t this what we need for this day?
