Let God Do the Searching

·

Psalms 139:23-24:
“Search me, God, and know my anxious heart;
         test me and know my anxious thoughts.
See if there is any offensive way in me,
        and lead me in the way of everlasting.”

This pandemic is causing lots of people to reflect and search for answers. Much of this self-reflection involves examining priorities, values, and what people are trusting in for a sense of security and peace. This is a good thing, but there is a caution. You should NOT do this alone. Walking down the corridor of your inner life without God could prove destructive.

While counselors and psychology can render insights into human behavior, no one can fathom the fallenness, not the ability to deceive ourselves like God can. The truth is that you and I cannot know our own motives because we are weak and wicked in our sinful nature. Don’t forget the warning of Jeremiah: “The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? I, the Lord, search the heart and examine the mind” (Jeremiah 17:9-10).

BOTTOM LINE: Searching is God’s work!
“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost” (Luke 19:10).
