Don't Forget

Psalm 103:2 NKJV “Bless the Lord, O my soul. And forget not all His benefits

There will be many lessons, no doubt, that will be learned from this Coronavirus pandemic. Some lessons will be remembered, others forgotten. Though loss of life to disease is never a positive thing, I do believe that God will do the “great reversal” and bring much good out of severe loss.

Our world, certainly, will learn some important lessons for handling the next pandemic. Nations will most likely react quicker to insure their citizens are kept safe. Supplies of needed emergency medical equipment will no doubt be planned for. These types of lessons will help us tremendously with the next global disease challenge.

There will be other lessons that unfortunately many will forget. When life turns back to “normal” again, people will most likely go back to work with very busy schedules trying to make up for lost income and experiences. I wonder whether there will be an appreciation for the positive discoveries that were made through this hard time.

For example, did this time of being shut out of the religion of Sports and Entertainment increase your time to enjoy family or quiet time or the outdoors? Did this time of fear and anxiety reveal the depth of your confidence in God and His great promises in His Word for His people OR was it a dry, spiritual wilderness for you? What did you learn about yourself, your values, your priorities, your faith? Did you discover “idols” that you secretly mourned over when they were taken away from you so quickly or maybe you found them not worthy of your devotion to them?

What are YOU learning through this? Whatever those lessons may be, I hope you will remember what God is revealing to you. God uses ALL our experiences to conform us into the image of His Son (Rom 8:28-29). The problem is, we have a tendency to get spiritual amnesia, when the pressure is off. Let’s not forget all of what He wants to teach in this important “life moment.”
