Psalm 27:4-5  “One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple…”

During the Second World War in England; families, mostly women, children, and the elderly often found themselves having to quickly head into their bunkers to escape the nightly bombing raids that came in waves in a city like London. During the years of 1941-1944 at Oxford University, C.S. Lewis gave a variety of radio broadcasts that were evenly compiled into the timeless book “Mere Christianity.”

Lewis was invited to participate in these broadcasts because of how his book, “The Problem of Pain” captured the heart of those in BBC Radio leadership. The nation and its families were looking for comfort during a time of great distress and more than a few unknowns. This gave Lewis a timely platform to show his nation where hope and comfort can be found.

In one of Lewis’s programs, he makes this statement, “Of course, I quite agree that the Christian religion is, in the long run, a thing of unspeakable comfort. But it does not begin in comfort; if begins in the dismay I have been describing, and it is no use at all trying to go on to that comfort with out first going through the dismay.”

These past two weeks have shown us that worldly comforts are but a vapor.  Life has been put on hold, and once again we can declare as Christians where our hope and comfort can be found. Our “bunker” if you will must be found in Christ. The Psalmist declares, “…For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent; he will lift me high upon a rock.”

The Lord is your strength and will always be the source of your comfort. Find rest and hope in the shelter of His goodness today. Be Encouraged,
